This edition of the Cinelli Rider Collection was inspired by Olympic Silver Medalist and US Bicycle Hall of Famer, Nelson Vails. The youngest of 10 children growing up in the Harlem projects, Nelson Beasley Vails took to working as a bike messenger as a way of supporting his family. By all accounts, Harlem seems an unlikely beginning for a cycling legend, but it was there that Nelson started on his path to become the first African-American to win an Olympic medal in cycling. Our cap design draws inspiration  from the skin suit worn by Vails in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, where he took the silver medal in the 1000m Match Sprints. Vails had a prolific and successful career both on the track and road, and his contribution to cycling history was recognized with his induction into the Bicycling Hall of Fame in 2009.
